We begin in Madrid, Spain, with a pre-cruise extension where Trevor enjoys a tasty immersion into the Spanish food scene. An excursion to the UNESCO World Heritage City of Toledo uncovers a town replete with ancient cathedrals, cobblestone streets and history on every corner. Trevor then visits a Spanish Flamenco show, before heading to Lisbon, capital of Portugal where his 10-day Portugal’s River of Gold cruisetour begins. In Lisbon Trevor explores the historic Alfama District, visits Belem Tower and Jeronimos Monastery before setting off on a culinary tour of the city.

This episode begins with a look at the ancient Portuguese art of Azulejos tiles. Enroute to Porto, Trevor stops to explore one of Portugal’s oldest cities, Coimbra and experiences a dramatic Fado music performance. Trevor then arrives in Porto to board Viking Hemming for an 8-day cruise along the Douro River. In Porto, Trevor discovers the Luis I Bridge and Church of Sao Francisco before visiting one of Portugal’s prestigious winemakers for an exquisite port tasting and dining experience. After a morning of sailing the Douro River, Trevor arrives in Régua to visit the beautiful Mateus Palace.

Trevor navigates the fascinating river locks of the Douro, before exploring the 600-year-old fortress town of Castello Rodrigo. Next up, he crosses the border into Spain to visit the UNESCO World Heritage listed, Salamanca, a captivating city built in the 13th century by the Celtics, predating the Roman Empire, where Trevor samples delicacies at the local market and explores the exquisite architecture. As his journey along the Douro continues, Trevor travels to the tiny village of Favaios to visit one of the last traditional bakeries in the Douro Valley where he learns the art of baking four corners bread before enjoying a cellar tour and lunch at a century-old wine growing estate.

In his last stop along the Douro, Trevor visits the beautiful pilgrimage town of Lamego, home to the 18th-century baroque wonder Nossa Senhora dos Remédios, perched high on the hilltop. Arriving back in Porto, he embarks on a port tasting experience at the Ferreria Cellars, founded in 1751. Trevor then steps behind the scenes to visit the last remaining fish-cannery that cans sardines using traditional methods and learns about Portugal’s famous sardine industry. To cap off the series, join Trevor in the historic city of Guimaraes, Portugal's first capital city and home to its first King before witnessing a traditional ‘Tuna Show’ performance.
